Welcome to the club! Here is some information to get you started.
Who are Vancouver Whitecaps FC?
The longest running professional soccer in club in Canada or the United States, since 1974.
Co-founder Denny Veitch gave the club it's name when he was driving over the Lions Gate Bridge and looked down to see whitecaps cresting the waves on the water, and snowy whitecaps at the top of the mountains.
Over the years as the professional soccer landscape in North America has evolved, Whitecaps FC have perservered through multiple leagues, including a proud history as Vancouver 86ers when the Whitecaps name was not available. Since 2011, the club has been back competing in the top tier – Major League Soccer (MLS).

What trophies does the team play for?
MLS Supporters' Shield
Like many leagues around the world, the team with the most points at the top of the overall MLS table after 34 regular season matches is awarded a trophy, comparable to the Meisterschale in Germany. In MLS, this is the Supporters' Shield.
MLS Cup
Similar to many other North American leagues such as the NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB, MLS uses a playoff system to crown a champion at the end of the season. Eventually this pits the winner of the Western Conference bracket against the winner of the Eastern Conference bracket in a final akin to the Super Bowl, the MLS Cup final.
Concacaf Champions Cup
Much like the UEFA Champions League in Europe and the Copa Libertadores in South America, the Concacaf Champions Cup is the regional championship between the best clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. This year, the 'Caps made the final of the Concacaf Champions Cup for the first time. The winner of the tournament qualifies for the next FIFA Club World Cup.
Voyageurs Cup (TELUS Canadian Championship)
This tournament is the domestic cup for Canada, like the DFP-Pokal in Germany. It includes the three Canadian MLS clubs – Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Toronto FC, and CF Montreal – as well as the eight teams in the Canadian Premier League (CPL), and the semi-pro League1 champions from British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. The winner is awarded the Voyageurs Cup and qualifies for the Concacaf Champions Cup. Whitecaps FC are three-time defending (four total) Canadian champions.
Leagues Cup
A recently created competition, unlike any other in world football, pitting 18 teams qualified from MLS and 18 teams from LIGA MX, the top tier in Mexico. The top three teams in the Leagues Cup qualify for the Concacaf Champions Cup. Each MLS team can compete in no more than two cup competitions annually, with Whitecaps FC already competing in the TELUS Canadian Championship and Concacaf Champions Cup. The 'Caps may compete again in Leagues Cup should they not qualify for the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Cascadia Cup
A regional trophy created by the supporters of the three Pacific Northwest clubs - Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and their biggest rivals Seattle Sounders FC and Portland Timbers. The trophy is awarded to the team with the most points in MLS regular season matches between the three clubs. Whitecaps FC and Sounders FC are tied for the most Cascadia Cups with seven each.

Who are our biggest rivals?
Whitecaps FC are part of the longest running professional soccer rivalry in Canada and the United States, the three-way Cascadia Cup (see above) between the 'Caps, Seattle Sounders FC, and Portland Timbers. This rivalry dates back to the 1970s, when the three clubs were originally founded. Hundreds of supporters from the Pacific Northwest travel up and down the I-5 to make some of the most vibrant atmospheres in MLS.
Nationally, the 'Caps compete each year against their Canadian rivals Toronto FC and CF Montreal. While most MLS clubs rotate which Eastern Conference teams they face every season, Vancouver are guaranteed to face their Canadian foes each year, with one at home and one away. The three sides also face each other in cup competition for the domestic national title, the TELUS Canadian Championship.
